"Public School Corrupted Me"
Advocacy Campaign
The Public School Corrupted Me campaign was originally launched in early 2019 and will relaunch during the fall months. The Public School campaign focuses on the lack on entrepreneurship education in public school districts and is designed to kill the 9 to 5 mentality. In my own experience, after graduating from a public high school, I had little idea on what I wanted to do, expect that I subjected myself to the idea of working for a boss. It wasn't until I attended the University of Maryland, that I realized, there are people my age with real ideas and goals to start their own businesses. The common difference in all these people I met were that they were encouraged to do this through their private school programs and had an early start to such a great endeavor.
This topic was the first Karma campaign and came in the form of 3 different colored shirts. On the front of the garment is an icon of a globe with the words karma surrounding it (because what goes around, comes around) and on the back is the infamous quote designed boldly so it catches your attention. It is a provocative phrase that makes people of all ages think about what it means. The shirt itself is up to interpretation by the consumer as they can attribute their own relation to the saying.
WNBA Basketball player Shatori Walker, is an example of this. As a professional athlete, there are many times it may seem easy to conform to societies standards of settling into the 9-5 mentality, but she defied the odds by become a prominent figure in the Women's league as a point guard. The shirt is limited and highly sought after by athletes, music artists, and students alike.
